Is the first week over already? Hard to believe...the staff has been most welcoming. I am fortunate that there are several English speaking staff members at SJHS. Shoto JHS is small...116 students and 12 staff membes. I delighted to be in a school where I can get to know people well.
I brought "I love NY" buttons for everyone and gave them out at the welcoming assembly. It is fun to see the buttons now and again.
I also co-taught a lesson on science & surface tension with my partner. I designed the lesson, we discussed it beforehand, and during the lesson, he translated as necessary. The students did several demonstrations and mini-experiments, using water, a yen, and penny, and, later, soap.
Naosan and I are doing a sound survey of frogs in our two different communties, so part of this week has been devoted to looking and listening for frogs. The attached photo is of Naoson walking through a rice paddy on the prowl for frogs.
I am going to attempt to attach one more photo, this one of a frog egg mass that is attached to branch of tree overhanging some water. The tadpoles develop in the egg mass and then drop into the water. Amazing! (Ok...that didn't work! You will have to use your imagination for now.)

Your frogs comparison sounds very interesting. I was at an iris garden last weekend and saw many tadpoles and also the 'frog egg mass' hanging n a branch. I had never seen anything like it and couldn't get a clear explanation. Thanks for explaining!
