Beginning our 4- week collaboration:
We arrived in Hiroshima on Friday, June 16th. What a scenically beautiful ride from the airport to the city!!! Kenny, my partner, has been most wonderful to make sure all is well. We stayed at the Ana Hotel, and had a lovely dinner with the administrators and partner teachers. I had a fantastic revisit (4th time) to Miyajima on Sunday; this time I got to see the monkeys.
My first day at Kogo Junior High School was very pleasant and naturally a little overwhelming. The staffs are very courteous. I find Mr. Masumoto, the principal, a very shy and kind man; I am very happy about my partner school, principal, and teachers. I am looking forward to learning from and communicating more with the students.
I have already connected to JUNNYA, a profoundly autistic 8th grade student. I am certainly looking forward to learning the techniques used in this school to treat/educate this especially fascinating and painful learning challenge.
Pictures will be posted once I connect my camcorder to the computer.
