I just finished two evenings of video conferencing with the sixth graders at Ono Minami. Each of the four sixth grade classes participated in separate video confernces with me at my home.
The children shared their Sports Day as well as a trip to Nagasaki and a visit to the Peace Park. I even got an on-line lesson on how to make an origami paper crane. Try that in front of a large group of Japanese students and not feel too foolish. It is difficult to make.
The student's English was excellent. They also sang "Country Roads" and played the recorder. We spoke about Peace education in both countries and our mutual desire for peace.
It was so nice to see the children again. Our next conference is next week when Mr. Araki, the principal, arrives in Georgia. We are looking forward to having him visit at Dowell. A reception is planned with our superintendant as well as media coverage. It should be very exciting!
