On Monday, February 26. Meads Mill MS and Saikyo SHS had their final web conference. Satoe-san moderated. The conference went very well. There were no technical problems. Everything ran smoothly!
Meads started the conference by giving a summary report of the bugs, soil, plants, and water projects. Saikyo presented a summary report on the water project. After the projects the fun began!
Saikyo shared a traditional Japanese game with us. We had a face and face parts. Players worked in pairs. One person was blindfolded. The other partner handed face parts to the blindfolded partner. They told them what kind of part it was; eye, mouth, etc. The blindfolded person then put the part on the face. This resulted in several hilarious and lopsided faces.
We played a marshmallow relay race. Meads students came up with this idea after we played the chopstick challenge during another conference. The students felt that the Japanese had an unfair advantage over us because they use chopsticks every day. They wanted to do a game with a fork or spoon.
Students lined up and 1 student scooped up a marshmallow with a spoon. He/she ran the marshmallow 3 meters across the room and dumped it in a bowl. When he/she returned to the start, the next person in line took a marshmallow. If a marshmallow was dropped, the player had to try again. The students really enjoyed this game. The US moved the most marshmallows and won the game, but only by a few marshmallows.
Saikyo students gave us a Japanese lesson. We learned the colors of the rainbow. Thank you!
We really enjoyed our time with our partners. It flew by so quickly and we were sad when it was over. We have really enjoyed working with Saikyo SHS. We hope that we can continue to have contact with Saikyo students in the years to come. We have learned so much during our conference and our eyes have been opened to so many new and exciting ideas.
We will miss you Saikyo!!! Please keep in touch! We are only an email away!
