On Dec 12 we held our December conference. During this conference the ISD students presented to the Miyagi students about American sports. For the first time we were able to conference from my classroom! I explained to the school that the internet forum is like an auditorium (like one we used earlier this school year for a Holocaust speaker) and I got permission to conference from school! That was a big step and so much more convenient than bringing the kids to my house. (I didn't have to clean- they are use to my chaotic classroom! haha). The conference went well. The kids interacted as much as is possible with the four languages going on. I made a Corel Presentations to show pictures of the sports and we projected it with the LCD and tried to use the camera to show it. Duh! Then we got wise and the end ane realized we should have just put the camera up to the computer! There was time at the end for the kids to ask questions of each other and talked about Christmas.
Below is the student report:
We videoconferenced with the Japan students. We showed them our American popular sports. We showed them different kinds of sports. The sports we showed were a cheerleader, volleyball, wrestling, football, hockey, and basketball. We showed the movements of wrestling, football, and cheerleading so the students could see what they looked like. Kenzie performed a cheer for them. Dorian and Ladale dressed in the football uniform and they showed how football players hit during a game. Alex dressed in the wrestling uniform and wrestled with Dorian. Alex won the battle! Ladale changed into the school basketball uniform and Alex wore the school volleyball uniform. Philip explained about hockey. He said that when he was younger he played hockey on a deaf hockey team. It was interesting. We used a slideshow to show them pictures so they could understand what we were talking about. We enjoyed showing the sports and hope the Japan students enjoyed it also.
