At our October video conference, we discussed our paired project, and wondered why our fast plants had grown so differently. For example the Japanese fast plants were lush and full, while ours were spindly and puny.
We used the same soil, seeds, light stand and watering mechanisms. We hypothesized that the temperature in the rooms, the humidity or the amount of Ozmocote fertilizer used may have made a diffrerence. Oddly enough the Japanese mutant plants grew taller than the normals, while the opposite was true in America.
Dr. Bruce Cahoon, our univeristy consultant, said the American fastplants looked like others he's grown. So the Japanese fast plants were the exception, we feel.
In any case, the experiement has been successful. Due to the differences we experienced, we both are agreeing to grow the resultant seeds and see what happens.
