Kyoto-sensei arrived November 4 2006 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He started his adventure at Narita airport in Tokyo. His flight stopped in Seattle, Washington, went to Denver, Colorado, where he boarded a small plane for Cheyenne, Wyoming. That is a long time in the air!
To see some of the nature and experience the Rocky Mountains, we spent part of the day Sunday in Estes Park, Colorado. It is about two hours by car from Cheyenne. It was a good day to see big horn sheep as we saw many moving in and around the Big Thompson Canyon. During the week, Shinoki-sensei was able to tour Cheyenne East HS and visit with students and staff. Our newly formed Japanese club was very excited to have him present a Japanese lesson. November 7th was election day in America, so Shinoki-sensei was able to observe the voting process in action. There had been a few changes, so we had to wait in line longer than usual. Typically the process only takes fifteen or twenty minutes, but this year we spent an hour or so at the polling site. Some places in America had to wait much longer. There were reports in Denver, Colorado of voters waiting for two to three hours. Kyoto-sensei met with the Global Science class and had a chance to meet the students involved with the pair project. The Cheyenne East HS students were very curious and had lots of questions for the visitor from Japan. Another highlight was when Shinoki-sensei visited the Japanese classes held at Laramie County Community College. He helped the instructor Seta-sensei with both classes. We really enjoyed hosting Shinoki-san from Hibiki High School. He was very interested in Cheyenne East HS and asked many good questions. We hope he had an enjoyable time. Many thanks to JFMF for making the opportunity possible.
