Our Washington, D. C. meeting was just the beginning of new partnership between Nuevo, California and Shotoku Gakuen Junior High School in Tokyo.
Aki and Shimo totally immersed themselves in our campus; meeting with administration, teaching a class, giving a karate demonstration and more. Three mornings, we were able to meet with our site tech coordinator, Frank Robson, and our district technology director, Russ Ramsey, to discuss our joint project and working together via the internet. Our partners Aki and Shimo were even brave enough to ride the afternoon school bus with our junior high students!
But the learning hardly stopped once we left campus in the afternoon. Visits to the San Bernardino County Museum of Natural History, the March Air Field Museum, the University of California-Riverside campus and a local teacher supply store were just for starters.
One of our highlights was a southern California tour in Dr. Jay Hoffman's airplane; we soared past the "Hollywood" sign, over Dodger Stadium, and right into the Santa Monica airport for lunch. The return flight took up over the Queen Mary in Long Beach and the beautiful mountains that line our coast.
On Thursday evening, our assistant principal, Jeff Simmons and his family joined us for a trip to Medieval Times in Buena Park, and on Saturday our counselor, Erika Munoz and her family went with us to Universal Studios.
As our partners left on Sunday morning after a very busy week we look forward with great anticipation to the summer planning session and to next school year's joint venture.
Respectfully submitted, The Mountain Shadows Team

Wow, that sounds like a grand study/tour partner visit. I want to come visit! I've never done any of those things & I've lived in California all my life... We're starting to pack at this end. In a month we'll be in Tokyo and there are a few loose ends. one thing...I need to make sure my lawns and gardens are self watering. It was October when I shut the irrigation down and there may be a dead battery or two out there when I try to fire things up. I've never been able to teach the cats how to open a can, but maybe I should make another run at that... I probably should start in on my end of the year paperwork. We'll probably be somewhere over the Alutians when graduation starts...Cheers, Jim.
