My older sister, Kathy, and I took my mother out for Japanese food last night in Santa Rosa. It was at the end of a minimum day for students and a real treat for everybody. Good fortune is raining down. On Wednesday evening Carol and I had Japanese food in Windsor after playing a brutal game of Upwards with her mother. I could live like this...maybe I do! Carol ordered udon, something found under every rock on Shikoku. In other news, it's Friday. I'm looking forward to the weekend and like the idea that there is absolutely nothing on the calendar. Nobody is getting married, I don't have to build anything for anybody (let me think about that...) and it's raining. It's starting to look like a "hobby" weekend. Spring break, though six months away, is booked. Our Spanish teacher, the art teacher and I will be taking a group of high school students down to Mexico for 12 days. We will start in Mexico City (Our Lady of Guadalupe) and head for Puebla (Villahermosa), Palenque, Uxmal, Chinchen Itza and Cancoun. By mid April I'll be ready for some time on the Gulf of Campeche (wearing my hat and slathered in SPF 45). If I choose to take some of my banked time, Carol and I will travel to Death Valley the week before Christmas. School isn't out till 12/22, but Carol has that whole week off. If I pull the plug early, we can do some bugs and soils in Panament Springs and Furnace Creek. Maybe we can squeeze in a visit with Azita...We do like to bicycle down to Badwater for the day. Tradition has us walking out on the salt flats (286 feet below sea level0, bending over and shouting, "I've never stooped so low in my entire life!" Simple pleasures. Simple pleasures...Best to all, Jim McElroy
