This small community has followed the JFM program carefully. We have a large Nissan factory nearby and besides great jobs and wonderful benefits for this formerly rural area, the people just don't know about Japan. They think Japan is all warriors and sushi. This is quite a Southern small town.
After the visits of the Kushiro men, several schools have taken up studies of Japan. In particular, Mitchell Neilson Elementary (a school we visited) is having as their central theme for their summer reading camp, Camp ReadMore, as Japan. I am sharing many ideas and games the men brought, examples of calligraphy, ideas for food explorations, and so on. They are most grateful, and the children are excited. This school is primarily minority and poor.
It is most satisfying to see the expansion of minds and the global awareness the FMF has brought to Murfreesboro.
