It is the beginning of my 3rd week in Kesennuma. I remember last year how quickly the time passed, and I realize it is happening once again. It seemed the time passed so slowly as I marked off days on my calendar prior to coming to Japan.
This morning I observed a 6th grade math lesson. The topic was distance/rate/time. I laugh inside as I think about how difficult these lessons seemed when I was in school, and now I can relate the lessons to daily life - driving a car, planning a trip, gasoline consumption etc. - and it seems to make so much sense.
I wander around the halls and observe other lessons today. I watch Watanabe-sensei's class during a writing lesson; then I join a music class with 2nd grade students.
It was nice to have some reflection/working time today. Last year, I remember staying on my computer late every evening trying to resize pictures, and I decided that is not the smart thing to do this year. Not to say there haven't been a couple of late nights on the computer, as I find myself going over presentations I wish to perfect, but I have taken time for rest, walking, good friends, and reflection.
