I accompanied the 2nd grade to a cucumber farm today. We walked in single file along narrow, winding roads for about 10 minutes to board the public bus. Oops! We had a few too many children for one bus, so the overflow loaded onto the next bus. We arrived at the bus stop, and I don't want to exaggerate, but I think we walked another 20 or 30 minutes, I'm not sure because I was having such a great time with the crew at the back of the line. They were so curious about everything we passed. We did stop at the community center along the trek for restroom breaks, as we did on the return trip as well.
The cucumbers growing at this farm were enclosed inside greenhouses. The students sat very still and took notes in a little book as the farmer explained about the cucumber farm. I was impressed how politely they waited for question/answer time. Following Q&A, we strolled through greenhouses where we observed the cucumber plants at different stages of development.
