My reintroduction to Tokyo began with the predictable acknowledgement of the idiosyncratic differences between U.S. and Japanese culture. A paradigm shift begins to take place as considerations of uniformity and collectivism, aesthetics and pragmatism, tradition and modernity all begin to settle into their respective spots within my own personal framework for conceptualizing Japan.

Again, loved your summary. Great thoughts carefully written. Encapsulated my thoughts entirely. Thanks. Cynthia Bellwood Discovery

Great photos. It`s time to sweep out this room, so I`ll have to ingest the rest of the postings when I get to Matsuyama. They like to say:
samukeredo sake mo ari yo mo aru tokoro
It`s cold, but we have sake and the hot spring...for the children
Best, Jim mcElroy
