This report can also be read in English and Japanese from a report prepared by Mr. Okoshi of the Omose Junior High School.
The 8th grade students at Omose Junior High School spend a day working in the community at various businesses. The businesses volunteer to host students for the day to give them an understanding of life in the work place including a bakery, a bookstore, a Japanese style hotel and a Korean style restaurant. The students select where they would like to work and Okoshi Sensei traveled around Kesennuma where I was able to observe this worthwhile project first hand.
The students also clean their school after the last class but as you can see I was a disruption. That could not be helped because they remembered me from my last visit to Omose Junior High and we had so much to catch up on. I think I was more excited to see them and of course take some new photos. It is times like this when I see the students from last year I remember that they are the reason for this project. It truely is all about the students and I would not have it anyother way.
MTP requires a video conference each week and today was no exception. It was fun to talk to other MTP participants and enjoy the experiences of their host communities all over Japan. We also discussed the regional conferences (for me at least it will be in Sendai) while others will be in Hiroshima.

Tom,
I think the students are always excited to see us during 'cleaning time' so they can take a break! I'm not sure if some of them ever get anything done if I sneak out in the hallway.
Great photos! Going out into the community to see the students at work must have been fun. It would be neat to hear about their responses to spending a day in the 'real world'!
I look forward to more posts. Have an enjoyable time.
