What a great cultural exchange this conference has been! The video conference has provided for both elementary schools, Shotoku Gakuen and McClelland, to truly learn and enjoy such interesting cultural aspects. Despite some technological difficulties during the conference, it was, once again, a remarkable one.
To begin with, Shotoku friends shared their Fast Plant progress. It warmed my heart hearing those second graders read the book, In the Sea, with which I used to teach them while in Japan. They did an excellent job reading the book. Every time I see any of those Shotoku Gakuen students, I realize how much I miss them.
McClelland shared our Fast Plant progress and also Thanksgiving tradition. Our table was covered with various dishes including mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green- bean casserole, and of course, Tom, the turkey were prepared. It was a precious site to see the reactions from Japanese students when they witnessed our principal, Mr. Webb, carve the turkey. Our sixth graders also performed a play describing the First Thanksgiving.
We concluded our conference by doing Japanese clapping.
