It is my last day at Ono Minami and I have just finished teaching my last class. As I sit at my desk watching the students leave, I am thinking about my four weeks at the school.
I will miss driving up to the school in the morning and seeing the children smiling and waving, the little ones wearing their yellow hats. I will miss being called "Gail Sensei". I will miss my comfortable desk in the staff room. I will miss not having to think about whether or not my shoes match my outfit. I will miss "Ohayo Gozaimus" or however it is spelled. I will miss the food. I will miss the exotic flavored ice cream. I will miss eating with chopsticks. Most of all, I will miss the friends that I have made both two years ago and this summer. They have touched my life in ways I can never explain. Things I will not miss: The heat, the humidity lack of air conditioning swollen feet and fingers sleeping on a futon living in a one room apartment always feeling like I need a shower Since the pros outweigh the cons, this has been another wonderful experience for me. My thanks goes out to everyone who made it that way.
