Greetings from August 20th. It's Sunday morning and I intend to shovel out the house and load the truck with the items I'll want at school tomorrow. I've enjoyed all of the summer adventures. The high water mark was the MTP experience. I wrote a document while in Matsuyama regarding how my involvement in the program has had positive benefits for me and the lives I touch. the whole text was lost and I am still getting ready to take another run at the composition. It's not hard to sing the praises and list the positive outcomes of the program. It just takes time to do it well, and the moment to jump into the task hasn't presented itself yet. Maybe my prep period well slow me down enough to dig in to the composition. Time will tell. Let me know if you want to skype while at school ar other times. Best for now, Jim McElroy

Hi Jim, Best wishes as you start the new school year. I have another week.
I love the photo of the bamboo brooms. I wanted to bring one home, but thought they were too long to take on the plane. I saw a short version being used in Tokyo 2 years ago, but couldn't find a place to buy one. My friends in Sapporo this summer, had never seen one . But, ... I was in Portland, Oregon last week attending my nephew's wedding (he married Wakana from Kyoto!) and found the broom I have been looking for at the Portland Japanese Garden. Now I will find out if I can get my students to clean their classroom with a Japanese broom! Dave Corsa

Nice to hear from you Dave. I brought home a Japanese wiskbroom. It's similar in size to the American counterpart, but it's round, rather than flat. Note the metal wastebasket that houses the brooms in the posted photo. Metal shop students at Matsuyama Tech H.S. make them as sho[p projects. I'll be using that idea to teach welding this year. Best, Jim

Good to hear from you, Jim. Even if you don't reply to my replies. It's ok..no,no...it is ok. Harumph.
I am presently in an Apple workshop and am playing around. Supposed to be working. Haha.
