We met for breakfast at the Port of Piraeus Restaurant and then left on buses for Bell Multicultural High School We were greeted by some of the band members outside and escorted to the auditorium. The assistant principal, a former JFMF teacher participant gave us a history and overview of the the high school. We were given entertainment by some of the students that included dancing and other routines. We visited several classrooms during the morning.
We traveled back to the Japan Information and Culture Center and had lunch at the Port of Piraeus Restaurant. It was St. Patrick's Day and there were many festive people around town throughout the day and evening. The celebration began the night before when many people were lined up across the street to get inside an establishment that would be having bands throughout the day. They were loud and kept many people awake during the night. Many of the Japanese teachers did not know about the celebration of St. Patrick's Day in the US, but soon found out how it worked.
At the Japan Information and Culture Center we had a Japan and US Joint Orientation that included a program overview, how to get things going, and implementation.
It was difficult finding a place to eat in the evening because of the crowds. Eventually, all of the Hiroshima teachers and their partners found a nice spot and enjoyed supreme hamburgers at Fuddrucker's Restaurant. Later, we went to a Thai Restaurant and enjoyed conversation over a drink.
