Callisburg Middle School community visit:
The Callisburg Middle School was host to six teachers from the Omose Junior High School. They were treated to a Texas BBQ and met members of the school staff as well as members of the community.
The three American and the six Japanese partners attended a meeting at the University of North Texas (one of our University partners) where they were offered assistance in various areas of our pair project.
All six teachers toured the Callisburg Elementary, Middle and High School. Mr. Abe and Mr. Okoshi spent a day in my class room getting to know my students. My students were excited to have Mr. Okoshi and Mr. Abe come into their classrooms and answer so many questions about the customs of Japan as well as the life in school for their students. My partners were so patient as they answered many of the same questions in each class.
Mr. Okoshi gave a power point presentation to each class about Kesennuma and the Omose Junior High School.
Mr. Abe treated my third period pre-AP class to a lesson in Japanese calligraphy. He provided all the materials that were necessary for my students to learn some Japanese words and then through the use of calligraphy brushes paint the words onto the paper. Mr. Abe then wrote their names on their paper in Japanese.
Later in the week the faculty and staff of the Middle and High Schools were presented a power point that explained the objectives and goals of the MTP JFMF pair projects.
All six Japanese partners and the three American partners attended a conference at one of our partners in the project. North Central Texas College showed what areas they can be of help for our pair projects.
Sadly it was time for our partners to leave but there is comfort in the knowledge that we will work together soon in Japan.
