Ah, what a magnificent museum we visited today! The Miraikan. It was definitely better than the Smithsonian iin terms of hands-on interaction. The first floor was devoted to symbiotic living and I could have stayed there all day! My paretner, Koji, helped me understand some of the exhibits.
We enjoyed the other floors as well, having a LOT of fun doing the brain illustionary projects. One was dedicated to the sense of hearing..and how our eyes play a major role in hearing. We hear with our eyes!
What I took away from this day was that in our teaching, not onlhy of science, but of all subjects, students do learn my doing. And the "doing" does not have to be elaborate or expensive. Koji and I agreed that the museum was inspirational, which was an objective of mine today.
Its name, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation aptly named the museum...cutting edged and innovative.
The reception in the evening was a blast. I got to eat wonderful food, drink several glasses of wine, and talk with the 3-week folks. I did my share of recruiting, I think.
This was the most worthwhile day of the week.
Attached area few pictures from this week.
