Yesterday, Shirari and I had a meeting about our paired project. Basically, he and I d ecided that in the Phase One part, we would use Space Shuttle fastplant seeds. These went into space on one of the flights and were exposed to gamma rays and other interesting things. We hope that this exposure will produce some interesting mutations.

We are trying to make sure our variabiliy options are covdered, in terms of soil, temperature, water and fertilizer. Our goal is to keep all conditions the same.

The second phase is aquatic studies using Lake Hatrutori and a large pond near my school. Our goal is to have the students discover that temperature affects life in the water as well as on land. Since Lake Hatrutori freezes in December, we will move to Phase Three then.

Phase three is Chopstick Challenge. This is right-brain training that will look like a game, and a chance to use graphing.

At this stage, "all systems are GO."
