A new concept at Bellwood Discovery is to integrate the special area teaches (music, art, physical education, health, library) with the classroom teachers. One a week, a special area teacher collaborates with a classroom teacher for 2 hours.

My collaborator is Mr. David Winton, a young and talented music teacher. This Wednesday, David and I will be conducting BUGS. He is quite excited. I ran off the manual for him and the hints from Dr. Jones.

Weather permitting, we will be out, collecting and categorizing bugs and insects. Having an extra pair of hands will make the process much more organized, safe and enjoyable.

In the past few weeks, Mr. Winton helped me unveil my mold experiments. We grew mold in egg cartons using a different bit of food in each cup. I am teaching about green plants by using the non-green plants for contrast. The children love to bring in their mold experiments, and gasp over what actually grew in their egg cartons which incubated for two weeks. Yes, the room did smell...even though I had double bagged each batch of egg cartons. Having 40 containers of moldy food in a classroom is stinky! He also has helped me tutor some students arrving late to our school, in aspects of Science that they missed.

Another collaborative project is to take our English grammar jingles and jazz them up. David is writing new music for the jingles and recording them. David is also technologically advanced and has been helping me learn new programs on my Apple.

We will take copious pictures of our BUGS.
