Central Elementary, AL LaShawnta Carnes
On Friday, January 12, 2007, my fourth grade students designed peanut collages. The students collected various items from newspapers, magazines, candy wrappings, recipes, and images of George Washington Carver using the internet. The students worked in small groups to come up with a plan for designing their collages. The students utilized some of their research information and included a few important facts about peanuts as well as George Washington Carver who is considered the "Father of Peanuts." The students exemplified creativity using paint, glitter, aluminum foil for texture, peanuts, which added a three dimensional effect, cupcake liners, and peanut shells to enhance their groups artwork.Their artwork was placed in the hallway for all to admire while many gained a little knowledge about peanuts.

Well, we don't grow peanuts here in Santa Rosa, California. We are famous for Peanuts though. Charlesa Shultz, who created the comic strip (Charlie brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Van Pelt crew) lived and died here. Our airport is named in his honor and there are statues of the cartoon characters all over town... Best for now, Jim McElroy
