At Bell Multicultural High School, they were overwhelmed by its advanced facilities and management practices. They were especially impressed by the school spirit of students and teachers, which they thought that was a very important part of education. At their partner school, they observed some classes and introduced Japan and Shiojiri ES to the students. They were surprised by the thickness of the school textbooks and thought it must be very difficult to cover so much material during the school year. They also found that the school utilizes PTA, volunteer, and substitute teacher resources very effectively. They took part in camp school and enjoyed free climbing, planning the pair project, and hiking together. The best take-home lessons for them were to realize that the smiles of children and the issues in education are the same between the countries, and to feel a bond with people in America.
