Hi All, I did not do the Fast Plants exercise as it is written for the participants because with a Rainforest Biosphere situated in the middle of the campus, our students do more with plants of every variety then most children. Each Great Room in the school (there are six) has a portable grow lab for use by all the teachers in classrooms off these areas. The attached photos show a portable set-up in my room for the germination of seeds imported from Suriname, South America. These are plants specifically used for medicinal purposes by indigenous peoples of the region. Most of these plants will eventually be transplanted into the Biosphere for further study, but some will be made into tinctures and poltices using native preparation techniques. We will be using the resources of rain-tree.com to complete research on the various uses of these plants and their preparation as medicines. Some of these photos show the scientific labeling which accompanies many of the plants throughout the Biosphere as well as some of the tools used by students for the planting and care of many of them. I really feel that must say something about the Fast Plant and Bug studies. First the results of these studies were not shared by my partner and myself. We did not plan to do anything with this data. Second, the data generated between the schools was not usful to me simply because it was posted in Japanese. Third, studies this structured and this limited in scope really should be optional for those partnerships that intend to use them. I do not do much related to the fast plant studies you wanted in my curriculum. Doing these as written would have been a waste of my and my students time.
