Student report: We went to Sherry Humphries' house for dinner and we waited for our Leo's pizza. While we waited for the pizza to arrive, we played with Christine Hall's baby. Then we ate our pizza. We ordered stuffed pizza so we could show the Japan students our thick pizza.
It was out turn to talk to the Japan students and to show them American foods. At 6:45 pm the Japan school was connected online to the video with us. The ISD group leaders for this conference were Philip and Jeb.
We told the Japan students that we will be showing American foods. The four categories of food we showed were breakfast, lunch, dinner and desert. Philip showed waffles and put them in the toaster. Kenzie showed cereal. The video went back to Philip and showed him putting syrup on the waffles and eating them.
Next was the lunch category. Mario and Ladale demonstrated how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Kenzie showed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Jeb showed macaroni and cheese but didn't eat it.
The supper category was shown next. Dorian and Philip showed the pizza. The said it was stuffed pizza and showed the layers that made it thick. Dorian next showed a baked potato with sour cream. The Japan students made a face at that!
Lastly Philip announced it was dessert time! Ms. Humphries had mailed a box to the Japan school that had macaroni and cheese and Rice Krispy treats. We all ate our Rice Krispy treats at the same time!
At the end of the conference we asked each other questions about Japan and America. The Japan students wanted to know if we had anime. We told them we did but that none of us read it.
We had a great visit!
Me- Overall, we had a great meeting. The main unfortunate thing is that we can't teach more sign language. The connection speed won't allow for that. We are going to try Skype instead of Meeting Plaza for the Dec conference though and see if that improves the movement.
Pictures to come! THey are still on my camera which is at school tonight.

Sherry,
It certainly sounds like your students are enjoying themselves at the videoconferences. I love the food idea - especially because they were foods that American kids love to eat! And you sent rice krispy treats - another great idea (and they are light so shipping probably wasn't horrific!)
I'm looking forward to hearing more about upcoming plans with your students and Japan.
