A glorious fall day finally fell on the Wednesday I have extra help from another certified teacher. Mr.Winton, the young music teacher, was a great help.
We all went outside and in the grassy area found a worm, a grub and assorted critters. The group who dug in the baseball diamond area turned up absolutely nothing. We hypothesized why that had to be so. The compacted soil, the grass killer they'd sprayed, the people using the diamond so frequently, etc. The third group who dug near the buildikng in a landscaped area also found few insects.
It has been dry in Middle Tennessee but we'd hoped that rain the night before might yield some more bugs. No luck.
But the class observed, dug, recorded, photographed, laughed and had a ball. Each time an insect was found, you'd think they'd found GOLD! Cheers went up and smiles abounded.
Especially fun were some special hand magnifyers that the kids wore around their necks. I won these in a grant. The kids felt like real scientists. Everything was looked at with the three lenses....everything.
Soil samples were collected for later work and analysis.
Pictures will follow when I can add them.
