6th grade students at Omose Elementary School and Calliburg Elementary School were participants in the first video conference between the two schools.
The students began with self-introductions by playing Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine who would introduce first. Then, OES students taught CES students the names of some foods in a Japanese Dinner, for example: gohan and miso soup. CES students learned about some of the research that OES students were doing concerning global warming. We learned of an island that is sinking, alternative fuel, and rice planting.
CES students taught some food words as well - pizza, brownie, Dr. Pepper, and Coca-Cola. They then shared a presentation about the solar cookers they researched, built and tested.
These classes will meet again in February to make proposals as to what they believe should be done about global warming.

I enjoyed the text and photos you posted. It was great to see your name at the bottom of the entry too. We're really enjoying the Japanese connection here. I like the food idea. Our next videoteleconference will be baseball and landmark related, but maybe we'll cater it with sushi and miso rather than popcorn and cider. I got a call from Tom a week or so back and was also contacted by Ted Irving to get Tim Jones' address. Cheers, Jim McElroy
