October slipped quietly away. It started out busy, but by the 23rd the videoconference, report cards and the 2007 MTP application were all in the rear view mirror and we were free to work on our Halloween costumes. Now we're gearing up for Armistice Day. Yesterday had a day without students. It was a good chanced to sort out paperwork and otherwise get to things that seem to live on the back burner. Shoreline High school is similar to a small house. It has a good sized office that tends to fill with clutter because I share it with the football coach (who teaches driver's training and health ed up here). Then we have a kitchen that seems to collect dirty dishes and science projects. Finally we have a bathroom that also serves as our darkroom (yup, we still work with silver...). I put a good sized dent into the mess yeaterday when I wasn't replacing sawblades in the woodshop Today we send the students home at noon and plan to work on our WASC paperwork all afternoon. Kids will go home wet because we had our November fire drill in a downpour this morning. Next week my Matsuyama partners and I will have a dry run of our 11/15/06 videoconference. Due to their daylong schedule of events, we'll dial them in at 5:30 in t he afternoon. I need to round up a dedicated crew to stay after school for three hours. We can do that with ice cream and miso soup... All the best to the crew, Jim McElroy
