Callisburg and Kesennuma used the regular video conference for November to exchange information regarding their pair projects. Please see the Pair Project page for specifics on the results of our tests. The conference went well. We are gradually learning to work around small issues. When we begin to hear feedback over the speakers, we will now unplug a microphone on the listening end of the conference. The enables students to hear their partners speak clearly without interference from feedback. When the other side needs to speak, they simply plug in the microphone and the opposite side will unplug theirs.
We have learned a great deal from our Kesennuma Partners. The science teachers in Kesennuma are true professionals and their students do a great job with presentation. I especially enjoy seeing them in their uniforms.
The Callisburg students' Power Point presentation was of equal quality, but the Kesennuma had more information included and covered a wider area of their community. However, the conclusions reached on both sides were comparable.
This was a particularly stressful day for the Callisburg team beause we also held a special video confernece tha focused on the issues of North Korea. Please see a separate posting for information and photos of this confernece. Our students also had their weekly Japanese Language lessons on the same day. Needless to say, we were exhausted, but it was well worth the effort. Concentrating on Japan all day and night helped our students stay focused and it gave them an incentive to learn more about Japan. Students who were in the Pair Project conference talked about their experience to other students on campus and the students in the Social Studies conference talked about their experience. Different students were also involved in the language lessons so more than 50 sudents had exposure to Japanese language and culture throughout the day.
