I met my partners, Mr. Kouki Hiraoka and Mr. Hideki Kamikawa last night in the hotel lobby about 9:00. Mr. Hiraoka is a math teacher and Mr. Kamikawa is an art teacher at Hiroshima Motomachi Municipal Senior High School.
The next morning we met with all other MTP participants at the Japan Information and Culture Center. JFMF staff gave a brief introduction and everyone boarded one of two buses for a day of touring some of the sites in Washington DC.
Our touring partners for the day were the other Hiroshima teachers and their American partners: Ms. Joko Ihara and Mr. Hiroyuki Kawamoto from Kogo Elementary School and Ms. Annika Puttney from Persell Middle School in Jamestown, New York. Also along were Mr. Kenji Kasai and Mr. Shin Yuda from Kogo Junior High, and Ms. Azita Zarrabi from Jack Lund Schofield Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
We visited many historical places during the day, including the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. We walked through the Korean War Memorial and visited the front of the Capitol Building. We were able to see the Washington Monument from many places around town. The rest of the day was planned for the Smithsonian Museum.
After lunch at the Cascade Restaurant in the National Gallery of Art, we walked to the Museum of Natural History and toured through the numerous exhibits. The American teachers had to return to the Japan Information and Culture Center for a meeting. The Japanese teachers continued to tour and visit places including the Air and Space Museum.
Later, we met again the hotel lobby and went to visit the Pentagon on the Metro. After seeing the Pentagon, we returned to our hotel rooms, met in the lobby again, and walked to Georgetown for a very nice dinner together at the Guard Restaurant.
