Teachers from Nusamai Junior Hish School and Delmar Middle School (along with some students as well) held a test conference on April 5. This was a special conference for Delmar since it took place during a conference about educational technology. One teacher was chosen to represent their district for a "Showcase of Excellence" where we were supposed to present our innovative use of technology in the classroom. Naturally, the reason I was chosen from my district was because of the MTP program and the video-conferencing.
So in a large ballroom of several hundred people milling about looking at each teacher's display, we managed to make our connection with the Nusamai teachers. It was difficult to actually do much talking because the background noise on our end was tremendous (a buffet dinner was also being served). However, we drew a crowd to see what was going on. Among the spectators was the person in charge of technology for the state department of education - the same one who could not let me get through the firewall during mtp04..... He actually was able to introduce himself to the Nusamai teachers and now assures me that they are working on ways to let teachers do live video conferencing in the near future.
