Who said weekends were for resting? We went to Sports Day and watched allthe children participate in events. They were very organized until the adults played tug-of-war. Koji has some good pictures of us!
We then visited a Coal Museum. Kushiro has a coal mine under the sea! It has not had an accident since l966. People from China have visited to see their technology.
We then went to a lovely restaurant for coffee and off to a wonderful grill. Imagine eating fresh seafood caught the evening before, with the whole neighborhood. It was a treat.
On Sunday we went sightseeing and saw the famous cranes. It is a reserve by the airport but the birds don 't seem to mind. They were feeding the cranes who are kept in uncaged areas. The birds are larger than I expected.
This was followed by more food and more beverages and activities. Pictures to follow.

Hello Cynthia! Sounds like you certainly had an adventure this weekend. The coal mine under the ocean sounds very intriguing. My grandfather was a coal miner, and I guess it peaked my interest to read your entry. Can't wait to see pictures!

Just two questions: did you do the tug of war thing and if so, were you victorious? Just wondering...Jim, East High
