From what I have read everyone seems to be having as wonderful and educational experience as I am. My first visit to Nanakuni Elementary School was with my partners, Mr. Nishiyama and Mr. Kakehashi on the Saturday after we left Tokyo. I was most surprised to see a great lesson going on in the art room. Representatives from a local University (there are over twenty in the Hachioji area) were working with a group of third through sixth graders on a project for a new park near the school. Working with the help of several parents, the children were carving the names of local plants on the front of signs and outlines of them on the back. These signs were then screwed into posts. The completed signs will be installed in the park when it opens soon. Wonderful example of the kind of cross-institutional cooperation we discussed in Tokyo.
